Five Reasons why oldschool MM pwns
Hello!
I got really bored, and started listening to really old H!P songs, and wa la!
-
The Singing This is a rather obvious point, but I strongly believe that the singing ability of a few of the new MM members cough*Koha*cough cough*Sayu*cough. Ex: (Some of the current line-up vs the original on their debut single)
-
The Dancing While they might be as good dancers, the old dances were less intense, and the focus of the song wasn't on the dancing, but on the singing. These newer complicated dances not only take away the focus from the singing, but they also make the girls sound insanely out of breath, which always makes a live seem that much worse.
-
Their looks While I do recognize that the original Momusus were good looking, they weren't only picked for their looks, and when looks didn't factor in, it made them have to be much better at everything else, like Kei. The new cuter look is what makes them appeal to the older wotas, who in turn repulse the teenage girls. (I must say, I'm not repulsed by this because I know that the creepy really old sterotypical wotas (the ones who do the dances and cheers, are over 50, and male) are by far a vast minority of the fans, but any teen/20's girl group from any country that has any old man fanbase of any size who have a mostly overblown reputation turns girls away. The original Morning Musume acted slightly cute, but not overly cute, and the costume people didn't try to make them look cute.
-
The songs Again, it's the cutesy cheerful stuff. While Love Machine and Koi no Dance site sold well, they both had good dance beats, good publicity, and weren't overly cute songs. While the PVs may have been pink, the actual songs weren't cute or happy bubblegum pop, but were more like the upbeat dance music most girl groups were releasing in the late '90's. I think where UFA went wrong was seeing that Happy Summer Wedding had such great sales (Only because of the group's great popularity at the time, but one wonders why they didn't notice that the sales went down significantly?) If they want an audience in girls, go to what girls are into now a days: less bubble gum pop, more mature.

The Girls behind the group- (This will be person by person and a summary)
This is quite obvious, but the original Momusu just had more personality to draw you in. This is based on talk show appearances, where most people new to Momusu would see them first.
Old: Overall full of spunk, willing to talk back, and will generally be really into what they're doing
-
Yuuko- The former office lady; she is kind of boyish in the way she reacts to things, and is funny but mature.
-
Kaori- The funny one; Spacy and generally really funny.
-
Asuka- ? (Haven't seen enough of her)
-
Aya- ? (I don't remember)
-
Natsumi- The born idol; she's very curteous yet will be funny, kind, or tough if you need her to be.
-
Sayaka- ? (I don't remember)
-
Mari- The spunky shortie; She uses her shortness to surprise when she's willing to fight against what the hosts say, but she's a polite and fun host herself.
-
Kei- The plain one; She may be considered less good-looking and more normal than the rest, but she's got spunk, she's funny and talented, and she's a really good sport. (Demonstrated by all the abuse she went through on Utaban, and then later saying that she liked it because it helped her popularity and that she generally didn't mind it.)
New: Rather plain, curteous, and more cutesy
-
Ai- She is very curteous in interviews, and generally doesn't try to go against the hosts.
-
Risa- about the same as ai
-
Eri- the same as above, but sometimes dabbles in the styles of the original girls.
-
Sayu- Narcissist. She believe's she's cute, and isn't afraid to flaunt it.
-
Reina- Used to be a yankee, now is... I don't know... but still a little like a yankee.
-
Koharu- basically always acts like an anime character. The worst part is that it's the anime character she voices, and Kirari isn't anything but bubblegum pop personified.
-
Aika- Talks like an old lady. otherwise, ?
-
Junjun- Funny, loves bananas.
-
Linlin- mature
----------
Not to say I don't like the new momusu though, I still love them!
